• Linux is a tick-driven operating system

  • a jiffy ranges from sub-ms to 10 ms

• All clocks, timers and syscalls have jiffy resolution

• One exception is gettimeofday()

  • its resolution is defined by architecture-specific function do_gettimeoffset()
