Things worked out extremely well for me. I have a PCMCIA D-Link Air DWL-650 (H/W:I3, F/W:8C2 is printed on the back of the card.) `cardctl ident 0` reports (I ran this after I upgraded the firmware, not sure what it was before): product info: "D", "Link DWL-650 11Mbps WLAN Card", "Version 01.02", "" manfid: 0x0156, 0x0002 function: 6 (network) The hostap drivers report (before upgrading): wifi0: NIC: id=0x800c v1.0.0 wifi0: PRI: id=0x15 v1.0.7 wifi0: STA: id=0x1f v1.3.5 I got the newer firmware from http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/. I used pk010101.hex from primary.tar.gz and sf010800.hex from 1.8.0.tar.gz. After upgrading, the hostap drivers report: wifi0: NIC: id=0x800c v1.0.0 wifi0: PRI: id=0x15 v1.1.1 wifi0: STA: id=0x1f v1.8.0 Before the upgrade, Kismet would die with a fatal error... something about a failed ioctl having to do with 'channel'. Now, Kismet loads and runs flawlessly. Also, the new firmware controls the led on the card differently (better.) I'm sure there are other improvements, but those are the two that I noticed. Your mini-HOWTO helped me flash my wireless card correctly the very first time. Thank you very much. Arin
