From: "Andrew Chapman" To: Subject: Intersil-Prism - flashing an SMC SMC2632W Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2004 14:04:09 -0000 Thanks for your instructions. I have an SMC SMC2632W card, which has the NICID of 8002. The NICID list omits this number, but I found that S1 upgrades are appropriate. SMC's latest OEM station firmware is 0.8.3 (S10008c3.hex), while they do not have a Primary firmware download. I found 1.5.6 to be the latest S1 upgrade available elsewhere, but could not find an alternative primary firmware upgrade. Before upgrade I had: NICID: id=0x8002 v1.0.0 (HWB3163-01,02,03,04 Rev A) PRIID: id=0x0015 v0.3.0 STAID: id=0x001f v0.8.0 (station firmware) afterwards I had: NICID: id=0x8002 v1.0.0 (HWB3163-01,02,03,04 Rev A) PRIID: id=0x0015 v0.3.0 STAID: id=0x001f v1.5.6 (station firmware) I used Winupdate. I initially used version 0.7.0 (from your web site link), but this version would not perform an upgrade with the SMC drivers I had - got error message. It was partially functional though: it would report on the existing firmware and export an image. I then used the version available on SMC's site as WinUpdate_OEM_1.1.zip. The zip file includes the S10008c3.hex image, but allows you to use another so I asked it to update with the 1.5.6 image, which it did. So I now have an SMC card with a much later and improved station firmware, which I am using in a Slackware based Linux AP. thanks, Andrew Chapman
